Meg Erke's work is inspired by the natural world (most often the woods, water, and trees of the Midwest). She looks for and finds ways to connect with students and collectors through art and nature. Meg is interested in documenting moments of quiet, joy, solitude, and locations that allow for introspection. She collects ideas and reference images while paddling, hiking, swimming, and in creative communities. Those observed moments or scenes are distilled to memory. Paint and paper are her materials of choice. Drawing, painting, gluing, and cutting are used interchangeably in her practice. She builds layers with collage and/or paint that are mounted to a surface and coated in resin. meg loves the evidence of the human hand, a wonky line or subtle imperfections speak to the human behind the work and she delights in it.
