Artist Statement for: Last Call at the VFW:
Captured in the haze of an average night out, this photograph documents a moment within the ephemeral ecosystem of queer nightlife. Whether in spaces built for us or those we've reclaimed, queer people have long turned to music and movement as a means of survival, resistance, and fleeting sanctuary. The impermanence of these moments—of queer spaces themselves—makes them all the more vital. On the dance floor, especially during the last song before the lights come up, there’s a kind of liberation, the kind that feels euphoric and deeply personal. This is a tribute to that urgency—to the way we dance not just for pleasure, but for presence, for community, and because we know it won’t last forever.
