Making public art since 2008, Martzia Thometz aka Prettyhard is a self-taught, Minneapolis-based visual artist with a background in graffiti. Working predominantly with aerosol, acrylic and ink, Martzia’s work spans from large-scale, physically engaging outdoor murals, to arduous and detailed canvas paintings and textile graphics in the studio.
Her trademark imagery seeks to exist between the elemental contrasts of “soft” and “hard,” and centers around the acknowledgment of radical resilience throughout time and in our world today. Through an intimate yet, universal shared experience of hope for a better tomorrow, womanhood in a patriarchal world, everyday survival, and the challenging, ongoing work of personal empowerment after trauma, her goal is to connect and heal others and herself.
